An Important Update on the Future of PixelSquid

We regret to announce that we will begin winding down PixelSquid, our 3D content platform for 2D creators, with full marketplace closure expected in the second half of 2025.

Launched in 2015, PixelSquid has provided designers with access to photorealistic, rotatable 3D objects tailored for 2D workflows. The platform gained recognition for offering creative professionals a novel way to integrate 3D elements into their designs without the need for complex 3D software.

The decision to retire PixelSquid was made in response to several operational challenges, including aging infrastructure, rising maintenance costs, and a decline in both content submissions and customer subscriptions. The move is part of a broader strategy to prioritize long-term sustainability and resource allocation across its creative technology offerings.

Key Transition Dates

  • May 1, 2025 – Final date for new content submissions to PixelSquid.
  • June 1, 2025 – Deadline for submission edits or resubmissions. After this date, asset removal requests must be submitted via Customer Support. Contributors are advised to download any necessary files before this deadline.
  • Late 2025 – The PixelSquid marketplace will remain operational into the second half of the year. An exact shutdown date is to be confirmed.

Following the platform’s closure, content previously published on PixelSquid will remain available for licensing on Shutterstock and Envato, where it has already been syndicated. Contributor payouts will continue to be processed through TurboSquid for as long as the content remains live.

The SquidGuild Agreement will be updated effective immediately to exclude PixelSquid assets, allowing contributors the flexibility to publish 2D renders of those assets on other platforms, irrespective of their exclusivity status.

Additional Notes

  • Data Deals: Contributors who have opted into Data Deals will continue to have their PixelSquid content included in those programs unless they choose to opt out.
  • Photoshop Plugin: Support for the PixelSquid Photoshop plugin will end once the platform is decommissioned.

Future updates on this topic will be made through the blog and community forums as the transition progresses. We are committed to developing new initiatives within the TurboSquid ecosystem, aimed at offering future opportunities to current contributors.
